A Festive In Weekend for Our Boarders

Prep Boarding

This term’s festive ‘In Weekend’ was truly unique. Despite Storm Daragh, the boarders enjoyed two days filled with festive fun.

On Saturday morning, squeals of delight echoed as the children discovered that school was cancelled due to a government warning. This didn’t dampen their spirits; both children and staff engaged in a variety of activities, from Maths crafts and cross-stitching to mat surfing in the sports hall, drama games, and free swims.

In the afternoon, the children relaxed in their houses, adding final touches to their dorm decorations for the in-house competitions, and then prepared for the boarders’ feast. This annual event is a cherished tradition at Hazlegrove. Everyone entered the dining hall to the sound of a bagpipe player, enjoyed delicious food, sang a rousing rendition of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas,’ and ended the night with Scottish dancing. The sports hall was filled with smiling, laughing children and adults, all dancing the night away and savouring every moment.

After a night of festivities, Sunday morning began leisurely with breakfast at 9am. A full English breakfast was appreciated by all, providing the energy needed for the day’s activities. The seniors took charge of making Christingles this year, efficiently producing 80 in a short time. The main morning activities included Laser Tag, Zorb balling, gingerbread house construction and decorating, Christmas arts and crafts, a festive swim, and a Christmas jumper jelly bean disco!

After lunch, everyone took time to read and rest before engaging in Capture the Flag, Nintendo Switch games, or gentle crafts. Towards the end of the day, Mr. Farquar arrived to lead our Christingle service. The theatre, lit only by candles, provided a serene backdrop as the children sang carols, allowing us all to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and appreciate what we have. It was an unusual weekend, but one that will remain in our memories for a long time.
