Christmas Themed Experiments in the Science Department

The science department has been getting into the festive spirit with some Christmas themed experiments:

Year 4 were Arctic explorers and had to find out which material would keep them the warmest. They wrapped test-tubes in different materials and measured the temperature of boiling water over time to see which was the best insulator. They then discussed how animals adapt to living in cold climates and how they survive the winter months. 

Across different year groups, we embraced our inner Scrooge and investigated the dissolving time of humbugs! Pupils used water, acid and alkali to see which was quickest at dissolving the crystal sweet.
