7S Take on Historical Debate

7S held a heated debate today on who was the most suitable leader for England in 1135.
The class split into supporters of King Stephen, the grandson of William the Conqueror, and supporters of Empress Matilda, the granddaughter of William the Conqueror. Tensions were high, with detailed criticism of each candidate as well as praise for their respective positive qualities. Much was made of the medieval expectations for monarchs, and whether the two candidates lived up to those ideals. Neither candidate was found to have been the ‘perfect’ monarch; however, the debating was thoughtful and persuasive
