Hazlegrove Advent Service

What a wonderful Advent Service we held on Monday!
Some superb pupil Bible readings took us through what the scriptures say about Advent. We prayed for our wider world and those in need. There was joyful singing of advent carols (including a beautiful new version of ‘Ding Dong Merrily On High’ which we sang in two parts during the final verse), and the candles were lit on the beautiful advent wreath. Sometimes, we might ask ourselves: what’s the point of Advent? Is it just a big chocolatey countdown to Christmas? Well, our readings reminded us that Advent is actually a fabulous season where we remember the Christ Child is coming. Indeed, ‘Advent’ literally means ‘coming’. And what does Christ come bringing? The best gift of all: peace! What marvellous news as we enter the busy final couple of weeks of term. So, let’s seek to honour him and his ways this season!
